Bulacan State University (commonly referred to as BulSU or BSU; Filipino: Pamantasang Pampamahalaan ng Bulacan) is a public university located in Malolos, Bulacan in the Philippines. The University is one of the most respected institutions in Bulacan and in the Philippines. It was established in 1904 as an intermediate school by the Americans during their regime. It was converted into a chartered state university in 1993 by virtue of Republic Act 7665. It has four satellite campuses in Bustos, San Jose del Monte, Bulakan, Hagonoy, and Pulilan, and also runs an academic program in Hong Kong which offers graduate and collegiate degree courses.

The University is mandated to provide higher professional, technical training and promote research, advanced studies, and progressive leadership. It has been identified by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as one of the Center for Excellence and Development institutions in the country and one of the Training Centers nationwide for teachers pursuing education in areas beyond their specialization.

  • Bustos Campus in Brgy. Poblacion, Bustos, Bulacan was established in 1976.
  • Sarmiento Campus in City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan was established in 1998.
  • Meneses Campus in Brgy. Matungao, Bulakan, Bulacan was established in 2000.
  • Hagonoy Campus in Brgy. Iba-Carillo, Hagonoy, Bulacan was established in 2011.
  • Montessori De San Ildefonso in Brgy. San Juan, San Ildefonso, Bulacan was established in 2008.

International Campus

In 2003, BSU Hong Kong Campus in Nathan Road, Yaumatei, Hong Kong was institutionalized by virtue of a Memorandum of Agreement signed between Bulacan State University and Hong Kong Lifelong Education Organization (HKLEO).

The Hong Kong Campus was accredited and recognized by Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc., International Association of Universities (IAU) and the Ministry of Education of China.

Students Affairs

Student Population

The University has a student population of about 50,000 enrolled students, one of the largest state universities in the Philippines in terms of population/enrollment rate.

Majority of the students are Bulakenyo, but not only the Bulakenyos were studying at the University, but also many Kapampangan from Macabebe, Apalit, Masantol, San Simon, Santo Tomas, City of San Fernando, Candaba and other towns in the Province of Pampanga. There are also students coming from nearby cities of Metro Manila.

Student Government

The Bulacan State University - Student Government (BulSU-SG) provides a means for student participation in student governance in the University campuses. It assists in the protection of the rights and interests of the individual student and the student body and serves as an official voice through which students may express their opinions on issues affecting their welfare.

The Student Government operates and functions according to its constitution, resolution and ordinances.

Student Organizations

The Office of Student Organizations is headed by a faculty member designed as Director for Student Organization who is responsible for the preparation of annual work plan of student organizations, their implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The Director also supervises the activities of student organizations in each college/campus/unit as prepared by the unit coordinator for student organizations.

There are about 112 registered student organizations.

Student Publication

The BulSU Administration provides for optimum opportunities for the growth of campus journalism. The University shall provide opportunities that help develop responsible student publications pursuant to the constitutional mandate of freedom speech and press. All matters pertaining to student publication shall be subject to the laws of the land and the rules and regulations promulgated by the University.

Pacesetter is the official student publication of the university.

Scholarships

In the continuing effort to motivate students toward academic excellence, BulSU grants scholarships free tuition/stipend to qualified and deserving students. The office of Scholarship and Financial Assistance helps undergraduate students reach the goal of graduation by providing financial assistance service. Through this office, the University provides scholarship grants and financial assistance to needy but deserving students.

Types of Scholarship

The types of scholarships and grants are (a) Institutional Scholarship, (b) Private Scholarship, (c) Barangay Scholarship, and (d) Financial Assistance. Any qualified student may only avail of one type of scholarship or assistance in any given semester.

There are 82 Scholarship Providers for students.
